CUBA, Oct 25, 2018.- The main cause of the deterioration of the Cuban public health infrastructure is the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States to the island, an official from the sector stated in Havana on Thursday.
That brutal policy has damaged the entire hospital infrastructure and primary healthcare established in this capital, Havana health director, Reinol Garcia, told Prensa Latina.
The blockade against Cuba has affected the deficit of medicines and medical and non-medical supplies, he also said.
Many of the spare parts of the main technologies we have bought, have been later acquired by American companies almost expressly to prevent our technological development, the specialist noted.
According to Garcia, for the introduction of new technologies in the country, as well as inputs, we have to look for them many times in Asia or Europe, because in the American countries, specifically the United States, they do not allow us to acquire anything, he said.
If it could be done, their entrance to Cuba would be much cheaper and faster, and thus guaranteeing the quality of life of our inhabitants, he said.
As a consequence of the blockade, services such as the mother-child program, neurology, intensive therapies, neurosurgery and investigative activities, and medical care, among others, are damaged, the official said.
Garcia stated that due to the millions in limitations this policy against the island has caused, we have worked in recent years to recover the entire hospital infrastructure and primary healthcare in Havana.
Faced with this reality, on October 31, the UN General Assembly will vote for a 27th consecutive year on a draft resolution calling for the end of the U.S. blockade against Cuba.
That genocidal policy imposed to the island is responsible for damages to the health system valued at $2.5 billion USD in almost 60 years. (Cubavsbloqueo-Prensa Latina)
