Havana. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez condemned Monday the United States Administration´s obsession to destroy the Revolution.

“New millions for old infamies, for the perverse obsession to destroy the Revolution," wrote Díaz-Canel on Twitter, while commenting on the White House's decision to allocate up to three million dollars for covert actions to denounce presumed labor and sexual exploitation in Cuba.

Geneva – People in countries under sanctions cannot protect themselves against COVID-19 or get life-saving treatment if they fall ill because humanitarian exemptions to the sanctions are not working, UN human rights experts* said today.

United States threats French bank BNP Paribas with fine for violating blockade against Cuba

CUBA,  May 30, 2014. The US administration intends to fine the National Bank of Paris, BNP Paribas, with 10 billion dollars for having allegedly breached the laws establishing the extraterritorial, economic, commercial and financial US blockade of Cuba.

This would be one of the strongest fines ever imposed on an entity based on US territory, according to The Wall Street Journal, which reported that the conclusion of the BNP Paribas case, on the bank’s activities from 2002 to 2009 with Cuba, Iran and Sudan, could take place in few weeks to come.

Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa Condemns criminal blockade against Cuba

ECUADOR, May 28, 2014.  Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa Delgado condemned the United States blockade against Cuba during a Report to the Nation last May 24th, in ocassion of the 192nd anniversary of the battle of Pichincha that marked the independence from colonialism.

The President stated that "it is inconceivable that the Inter American Commission on Human Rights has its headquarters in the nation that maintains a criminal blockade against Cuba". 

Illinois Corn Association Urges President Barack Obama to Increase Commerce with Cuba

CUBA,  May 13, 2014. The Association of Corn Growers of Illinois requested that President Barack Obama increases the commerce opportunities  between United States and Cuba.

In a communiqué, the organization, based in Bloomington, says that Cuba's location represents "an excellent opportunity for food and consumer products of Illinois." This is because the country is located very close to the commercial ports of the southern part of the United States. But corn growers say that federal restrictions on financial transactions with Cuba are making business difficult.

US Blockade the Main Obstacle to Development, Cuba Charges

GENEVA,  May 13, 2014. Cuban denounced today here that the main obstacle to the Cuban people''s ability to exercise their right to development is the economic, trade and financial blockade imposed by the United States against the island for more than 50 years.

This aggression persists and continues to be intensified, and is a mass, flagrant, and systematic violation of human rights, said Cuban delegate Alejandro Castillo.
