National Council of the Churches of Christ Welcomes US Abstention in Key UN Resolution on Cuba

UNITED STATES, October 30, 2016.- The National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA (NCC) adds its voice to the chorus of those thanking President Obama and Ambassador Samantha Power for their action today in support of normalizing relations between the United States and Cuba.  For the first time in 25 years, the US abstained on a U.N. resolution condemning the U.S. embargo against Cuba, a resolution that has been presented annually. 

Parliament of Jamaica reiterates rejection to policy of blockade against Cuba

JAMAICA, October 35th, 2016.With unanimous support, the Parliament of Jamaica approved today, in its 8th consecutive occasion, a motion that calls for the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba. With the participation of legislators from the two most important political parties, representatives of the Government (JLP) and the Opposition (PNP) exchanged during more than an hour on this criminal policy the United States has imposed against Cuba for more than 50 years.

Extraordinary and Historic Victory for Cuba and United Nations Against the Blockade

CUBA, October 26 2016.- The Cuban resolution "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba" received at United Nations today, a historic support to get 191 votes in favor, none against and only 2 abstentions (United States and Israel).

Botswana media highlights main aspects of the blockade

 BOTSWANA, October 21st, 2016.- In their printed and digital editions the weekly publications “Botswana Guardian” and “The Voice”, today highlighted several of the key aspects of the US blockade against Cuba, which were exposed by the Cuban Ambassador H.E. Mr. Juan Carlos Arencibia Corrales in the press conference at the Embassy of Cuba in Botswana and with the participation of various organs of the national press.

The persistence of the blockade against Cuba is highlighted in Zimbabwe

ZIMBAWE, October 21st,  2016.- The Cuban Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Elio Savón Oliva, recalled the need to continue fighting for the lifting of the blockade against Cuba, which still remains despite the recently issued Obama´s Presidential Policy Directive and clarified that the latest measures announced by the US government have a very limited scope.

This was expressed at the launch, last Saturday, of a new chapter of the Zimbabwe - Cuba Friendship Association (ZICUFA) in the city of Bindura, Mashonaland Central province.

Condemn the Blockade in Australia

AUSTRALIA, October 2016.- The Ambassador of Cuba H.E. Jose Manuel Galego Montano denounced the United States blockade against the Island, in a recent event held at the Embassy of Cuba in Canberra and which was  attended by a number of Ambassadors, Local Authorities, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, and Friends of Cuba.

Vietnam calls for removal the blockade against Cuba

VIETNAM, October 19, 2016.-  A seminar on the trade embargo against Cuba was held by the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association (VCFA) and the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam in Hanoi on October 19.

The event saw the participation of representative from the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and National Defense, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, mass organizations, historians and economic experts.

Friends of Cuba in Dunedin demand the end of the US Blockade

NEW ZELAND, October 20, 2016.- Members of the Cuba Friendship Society in Dunedin, New Zealand, issued a statement denouncing the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, demanding its immediate end. The document was published in the Otago Daily Times, one of the majors newspaper of this southern region.

The Republic of Mauritius will continue to support Cuba against embargo

ZIMBAWE, oCTOBER 14TH, 2016.- The Republic of Mauritius will continue to support Cuba in its struggle for the lifting of the blockade and is willing to maintain coordination with the island on other issues of the multilateral arena.

This was expressed by the President of that country, Madam Ameenah Gurib- Fakim, receiving the Cuban Ambassador Elio Savon Oliva who handed the credentials that accredit him to that country.

Prestigious Bahamian intellectual calls for the end of the U.S blockade against Cuba

THE BAHAMAS, 13 October 2016. –In recent days the outstanding Bahamian intellectual Dr. Kevin Alcena published an article in his Facebook account, condemning the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba. Dr. Alcena described the blockade as “the worst in the history of humanity” and a “tragedy against a sovereign nation”.
