Cuba demanded that the U.S. government cease its manipulation of alleged health problems reported by its diplomatic staff in Havana, as a pretext to impose aggressive measures to harm our country, economy, and people
Rodrigo Malmierca, Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, said at the United Nations that the U.S. blockade is the biggest hurdle in Cuba for the implementation of Agenda 2030. This policy causes serious damage to the Cuban people and is the main obstacle to the development of my nation, the minister said.
The upsurge of the US blockade against Cuba brings about major drawbacks to the national population development policies, according to Cuban ambassador to the UN, Humberto Rivero. In a special session of the UN General Assembly, Rivero strongly rejected the recent activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act which imposes more hurdles to Cuba.
Salvador Valdes Mesa, First Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba, denounced the intensification of the blockade that the United States has maintained for almost 60 years against the Caribbean island.
"Despite the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba, now tightened with the application of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, the island continues to make progress in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, and most importantly in the protection of the rights of our children and adolescents," said Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations.
"Despite the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba, now tightened with the application of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, the island continues to make progress in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, and most importantly in the protection of the rights of our children and adolescents," said Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations.
The historian of Havana, Eusebio Leal, stated that the application of Title III and IV of the Helms Burton Act harms Cuba´s peace and sovereignty. In statement to PL, Leal highlighted the absolute and strict rejection to all illegal, extraterritorial and immoral measures by Washington.'This act not only threatens Cuban peace, but also that of all the peoples of the world,' he expressed.
Cuba's President Miguel Diaz-Canel has cautioned the Helms-Burton Law threatens peace, solidarity, peaceful coexistence and friendship. 'It's a law enacted to neo-colonize and enslave,' he further wrote in Twitter about Washington's barring the Peace Boat from docking in Cuban ports, as a result of restrictions recently enforced on US private vessels and planes.
The Revolutionary Government of the Republic of Cuba condemns in the strongest terms the measures announced by the United States Government on 4 June 2019, further tightening the economic blockade imposed on Cuba for over 60 years, at a cost for the Cuban economy which amounted to over 134 billion dollars in 2018
The U.S. Treasury Department added to sanctions announced April 17, and the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, the prohibition of "people to people" cultural and educational trips, plus others related to travel and transportation services, remittances, banking, commerce, and telecommunications
