Condemns in Greece the US blockade against Cuba

Athens, 19 September 2019.- A mass event of condemnation of the unfair economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba was held within the framework of the 45th Communist Youth Festival of Greece (KNE), in a central park in the Greek capital. The event was held in greeting the 60th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, under the title "The Cuban Revolution is Not a Bed of Roses, It is a struggle between the past and the future", paraphrasing the words of Fidel Castro.

During the event took the floor Paschalis Kagiannis, a member of the International Relations Department of the KNE; Cuba's ambassador to Greece Zelmys Maria Dominguez Cortina; Nikos Karandreas, President of the Cuban Hellenic Association of Friendship and Solidarity in Athens and Aris Evangelidis, Head of Latin America in the Department of International Relations of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE).

Speakers highlighted the history of struggle of the Cuban people, the achievements, the efforts and sacrifices in these 60 years of revolution. They strongly condemned Us policy and its unfair blockade against the people of Cuba, the Trump administration's new measures, and expressed their solidarity and ongoing support for the cause of the Cuban socialist revolution. The Ambassador also mentioned Cuba's internationalist cooperation with the peoples of the world with medical brigades and denied campaigns against the humanist work of Cuban professionals. She also reaffirmed Cuba's unwavering solidarity with Venezuela, Nicaragua and for the freedom of Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva.

Among the nearly 200 assistants were members of the KKE Central Committee, National Parliamentarians and MEPs, representatives of various solidarity associations with Cuba, various political forces and the general public united in the support for the Cuban revolution.  Also present were the counselor of the Cuban embassy Jose Oriol Marrero Martínez and the Charge d’ affairs of Venezuela Freddy Fernandez.

The event was an important example of the Greek people's friendship and solidarity with the Cuban people.

This Festival is the culmination of a series of actions in numerous cities in Greece, where solidarity actions were also made with Cuba. In the case of Athens, thousands of people participated in the 3 days of festival activities (19, 20, 21 September). (Cubavsbloqueo-Embacuba Grecia)
