Blockade against Cuba was rejected by representatives of ALBA and solidarity in Iran

IRAN, October 19th, 2015 - The Ambassador of Cuba, Vladimir González Quesada, conducted a press conference to explain the reasons why a draft resolution demanding the end to the unjust economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US against Cuba for over 50 years will be presented next October 27th, at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), for the twentieth fourth consecutive time.

The event, held at the Embassy of Venezuela in Tehran, was attended by the Latin American diplomats on behalf of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Trade Treaty of the Peoples (ALBA-TCP), as well as members of organizations of solidarity with Cuba in the Persian nation.

In his opening statement, the Cuban ambassador specified that the fact of the recent reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and US doesn’t mean at all that problems between the two countries have been solved. He added that one of these problems is precisely the blockade, which doesn’t allow normalizing bilateral ties.

The speech by the Cuban diplomat was followed by dissertations of the Ambassador of Nicaragua and Dean of the Latin American diplomatic corps, Mario Barquero Baltonado, the executive of the House of Latin America (HOLA), Hamid Shahrabi, and the Ambassador of Venezuela, Amenothep Zambrano Contreras.

All of them expressed their opposition to the blockade and acknowledged that recent developments in relations between Cuba and US are the result of the resistance of the Cuban Revolution and the global solidarity it has received throughout these five decades. (Cubavsbloqueo/ EmbaCuba Irán)
