US Blockade on Cuba Slows Digital TV Development       

CUBA, October 2, 2009.  The economic, trade and financial blockade the United States has maintained on Cuba for almost 50 years has slowed digital technology transparency to this country.

The digital television is being hindered in Cuba as another negative effect of the US punitive measure, meanwhile the siege limits American suppliers provide the necessary technology.

Enrique Santana, adviser of the First Deputy Informatics and Communication Minister, stated that a technical commission is analyzing which of rules existing worldwide in that sphere is advisable for the country's conditions, according to the website www.tiempo21.cu.

The transition from the current analog to digital television requires modifications, adjustments, and updating in those equipment to produce, transmit and receive TV signals.

US-applied policies on Cuba limit the access of top-technologies, components and spare parts.
