Cuba will never be Submitted, stresses Foreign Minister at UN

CUBA, October 29, 2008. Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Felipe Perez Roque affirmed today at the United nations General Assembly that the 50-year US blockade will never crush the spirit of the Cuban people.

In his speech at the annual session that for 17 years has debated the US economic, financial and commercial sanctions on Cuba,  Perez Roque, said that the Cuban people will not be discouraged either by blockades or by hurricanes. No human or natural force will submit Cubans, he added.

The Cuban chancellor pointed out that the United States will have a new President over the next few days, and that new president should decide whether the blockade is a failed policy that causes the US more discredit and isolation, or insist, with cruelty and blind rage, in trying to subjugate the Cuban people through hunger or diseases.

“From this platform I repeat: they will never be able to bend the Cuban people”, said Perez Roque and added “if you want an example of that, there are five Cuban heroes, fighters against terrorism, that have served a decade of unjust imprisonment in American jails, and that constitute a symbol of our people’s determination to defend its freedom and independence with dignity.”

Perez Roquez’ speech preceded the voting for the seventeenth consecutive year of the Cuban resolution demanding the lifting of the nearly-50 year US economic blockade of Cuba.

“On behalf of the Cuban people, that trust the decision you are going to make, I request that you should vote in favour of this resolution,” concluded Perez Roque. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
